I'm think I'm done. No, not kidding. Let's talk.
I am aware that for some, this video isn't necessary. There have been others in my same niche that have done the same, quietly. But for the new commenters, and for the friends of the channel, I felt as if I wanted to make this. Watch if you want, don't if you don't. And don't bother with demeaning comments, which will waste your time more than mine. No one will see it, and I won't be bothered by it.
For those who want to leave me their thoughts, feel free to do so in the comments!

    Great honest video. I’ve seen a lot of this “fatigue” happening to creators in our space, myself included. When that passion for the content becomes hard to conjure up, it’s definitely time to reassess. Like you, this platform is not my main, or even a considerable, source of income. It’s about passion for the content, the desire to share with the community, and those interactions and connections that occur. As you stated, you and I even connected through UA-cam and then in person! While I have not yet made my decision on how I am going to approach the future of my channel, I wish you luck with whatever direction yours takes.

    TBH Resolve 19 isn't that exciting, and I understand how the youtube ecosystem pushes their creators to stay always "relevant". But at the end of the day I feel it is better to do videos that you really enjoy to make, I feel those would eventually last longer. I really enjoyed your 3D fusion stuff, and I feel in the future many compositors will consult them since there are few tutorials witch such a depth, and Fusion user base it's getting wider. I hope you're doing well.

    As a colorist on UA-cam, discussing the latest tools and techniques might sometimes feel as monotonous as those camera gear channels that focus solely on the newest models and their features. Consider stepping back to rediscover the passion that initially drew you to this craft. Focus on the aspects of color grading that excite you, independent of the latest updates or trends.

  • @Longdancer

    Frankly, you're not the only one that feels this way. Many of the Davinci Resolve people i've followed over the past 4/5 years have really stepped back from producing as many as they use to. These include some of the professional colorists that you mention. This is for lots of reasons i'm sure: family commitments, additional work acquired through the hard work they put in building their UA-cam channel - well deserved. Also, i think some of them, like you, just loose motivation because life moves on, people change, priorities change - that's life. Whatever you choose to do, i just want to say thank you for all the work you've done so far. It's been very very useful and inspiriring to me. You are part of my success. Thank you. Good luck with everything. (I won't be unsubscribing)

    We naturally go through seasons in our lives. You may look at this as what is happening in your work. There are so many who are trying to find their niche here and it has become crowded with nothing really unique to differentiate themselves in what they offer. I looked back on the earlier videos I've watched of yours and was surprised that it was over 4 years ago. I have become busy in different ways, even as DR has evolved, and I am now becoming more interested in doing documentaries. When I first subscribed to your channel I was transitioning from Premiere Pro and needed help in using the software - you provided that help. But my "season" has changed and it's taking me in another direction and that is good. I've moved to using DR more as a tool to accomplish my expanded passion for making films. Posting on YT just to excite the algorithm and get pushed isn't where it's at anyway although many are successful at it, and that's great. Oh, I think I'm rambling. So, just keep growing. Les.

    • @PostColorGear
      @PostColorGear Місяць тому

      Thanks Les, nothing wrong with rambling. I enjoyed reading it all! And you're right about seasons. I can't say that I haven't enjoyed making the videos I've made. I can just say I am just not enjoying making them right now. But the future is unwritten, so we'll see what happens!

    It's totally understandable that things change in life, and we don't have the same interests for the same things over time. But there's one thing you shouldn't do is to compare yourself to others on UA-cam. From my perspective, there is no saturation of channels about Davinci Resolve and Fusion. What I mean is that even if there are multiple videos on the same subjects, most people watch most of them because of different spin from the host. I personally don't care much about the professional colorists using resolve for example. It doesn't matter if they are really good at their craft because what they do is related to their own niche. Film/Documentaries, etc. I don't work with raw footage or log. It's interesting but not appealing to the vast majority of the audience interested in Resolve. I watched a lot of tracking tutorials, they technically are all the same at the end of the day (it's tracking lol), but there is always something new to learn because it's presented by different persons with different personalities, and with reality life examples. Me for example, I don't need to know much more about tracking in Fusion anymore, but I still watch videos about it. It's entertaining, and it's interesting to see how people are using it.... And I still learn little tricks. Last thing, don't forget that most people never comment on UA-cam. It's always nice to have positive comments, but the most important thing is to just do what you like... And not care much about the rest. Whatever you do, good luck :)

    Thanks for the demo video. Would it be possible to show how to deal with a surface that gets obscured throughout the course of the clip? I've scoured Google and UA-cam and Reddit, and *NOBODY* is talking about this issue. I have many clips where I'd like to do some edit work and use the tracker to put a logo/image on a surface that's in motion, but once it gets obscured by something the mesh gets pushed out of its original position and never goes back to its proper place. Would you happen to know how to deal with that, and potentially make a video on it? Cause again, *NOBODY* else seems to be addressing that issue. Basically every video out there is focused on a surface that's clearly visible from start to finish in the clip which isn't helpful and not realistic for all surfaces which one might want to track. Especially in more lively clips where there's lots of stuff happening.

    You are truly impressive! Wow! Even more examples with 3D Model! I have a question regarding the import of a 3d Model (not the one in the example) into my Davinci scene. I need your help! When I reduce the size of the object to small (ex: Scale=0.02), I always notice flickers on the model and jerks/deform on the outline. Probably because the object is small. Is it possible, from Blender, to export the 3D Model by already reducing the Scale? Or if not, what would be the solution? With the Deflicker, Blur, ColorCorrector Nodes no success. Thanks and great work!

    • @PostColorGear
      @PostColorGear 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words. You should be able to reduce the size in Blender before exporting yes. I am not in front of my computer but I know there's a setting for it. As far as the flickering, I am not sure. My first thought was your graphics card but if you're not having issues elsewhere, it's probably not that. It could have something to do with the size, as you said.

    Great vid. I use a ton of green screen footage, and as we all know, this can come with a huge variance in quality on different clips. So I'm always looking for any way to improve the look of composite footage. I've never seen anyone use this method, but I can already see how it'll be useful with some of my footage. There are sooo many ways in Resolve to achieve/improve the end effect you want with compositing, I love to see different methods from different editors. Thanks for this!

    Do you know any good sources for Fusion-tutorials like this one? I always liked VideoCopilot tutorials, but they only do After Effects (which I don't have anymore). I'm trying to find decent special effects Fusion tutorials, but most of them are too 'snappy' and only do what's popular at that moment. I'm pretty new to Fusion and I'm trying to get things done like watersplashes. I do find some good Emitter tutorials, but nothing like watersplashes (3D). I'm converting older 2d movies to stereoscopic 3d. In the movie I'm doing now, the person walks through a waterfall. So the moment he walks through it, I want to 'throw' some watersplashes that you would get, towards the viewer. Fusion is the equivelant of After Effects, isn't it? Cheers

      Apologies I didn't response sooner. Yes, Fusion is Blackmagic's AE. And sadly I don't think that any other channels are doing old VCP tutorials in Fusion. I've thought about doing more but haven't gotten around to it and haven't had the time anyway. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Do you have the two viewers up? It may be that you're looking at the timeline viewer and not the source viewer.

    Is there a way of doing this for an image that comes into frame? Do you have more on this subject? What if the image isn't forward an is off to the side off frame?

    The notion that ISO 400 and 3200 are the most "balanced" is a misconception. If you look at the chart, the most balanced ISO is 800 and 1600. Second, there is no such thing as native ISO when shooting raw. Only in a baked in codec like pro res does native ISO really come into play. Cheers

      blackmagic raw is not "raw". It works with r3d files only

      @@dondantes1992 r3d files aren't raw, they're compressed. You have to choose compression before you shoot. But there's no native ISO on Blackmagic raw files, same as r3d

    Having trouble with my DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor keyboard. It's not responding during editing sessions despite being fully charged and recognized by my computer. Indicator lights aren't working either. Tried on different computers and reinstalled the software, but no luck. Any suggestions?

      I honestly don't remember. Might have found it on some site that had them. There are some color bars in Resolve under the effects page, and generators, but as far as this particular one, I don't know. Sorry, thanks, and thanks for watching! :)

    Hang on... Going "down" to 16mp? On a M4/3 camera? You realise that's the full frame equivalent of 60mp, right? 20 is equal to FF 80mp... and 24 would be 96. In other words higher than basically any FF camera... 16mp is not "pushing" it at all. 8 would be fine for almost everything... Also, talking about two Panasonic cameras... You don't have to say Panasonic every time my guy. You'll eat your memory card up.
